A current flagship in the EU’s portfolio in South Africa, the “Dialogue Facility” (https://www.dialoguefacility.org/) will be continued in the form of the Dialogue Facility 3.0. This much-hailed programme enables demand-driven knowledge exchange and dialogues towards strengthened policy development capacities. The Dialogue Facility successfully brings the aspirations of the EU-SA Strategic Partnership to a very concrete level as it brings together institutions and individuals. It will be adapted and updated from its current model. The specific objective of the contract will be to provide technical assistance in the form of a Programme Management Unit (PMU) to support the implementation of the EU-South Africa Dialogue Facility 3.0 that aims to encourage and respond to requests, mainly from South African Departments of the Government, for policy dialogues with the EU in various areas. Requests for policy dialogues are arranged through regular calls for proposals organised by the PMU.

Job description

The Event Manager will support the implementation of policy dialogue projects. He/she will be in charge of handling logistics, liaising and negotiating with vendors and managing the organisation of conferences, webinars, workshops, and other events under the EU-SA Dialogue Facility 3.0, including the identification of key note speakers/moderators.

Requirements

Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent diploma) in event management, business administration, social sciences or another subject relevant to the assignment
  • Fluency in English (at least C1 level) is a must, fluency in Zulu, Xhosa or Afrikaans (C1 level) is considered an asset
  • Innovative and imaginative approach to event design
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate event teams, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with clients, stakeholders, vendors, and team members effectively.
  • Proficient in negotiating contracts and resolving any issues that may arise.
 General professional experience
  • At least 5 years of working experience in South Africa is a must
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated expertise in planning and managing a wide range of events, from small-scale gatherings to large conferences or high-level government consultations.
  • Ability to oversee all aspects, including venue selection, logistics, vendor management, and on-site coordination.
 Specific professional experience
  • Experience in event marketing strategies, including digital and traditional channels, to drive attendance and enhance event visibility
  • Experience in information and communication technologies including handling of media related technology and social media
  • Experience in management of public procurement procedures in line with EU rules is an asset
