EU-India Initiative on Upcoming EU Regulation: Innovation platform focused on Deforestation

Activity Background and Context: The European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is a crucial regulatory framework designed to combat deforestation by ensuring that products entering the EU market are not linked to deforestation or forest degradation. For India, a major exporter of products covered by the EUDR, aligning with these standards is vital for sustaining market access and ensuring compliance. Role and responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Spearhead the initiative to enhance innovation in sustainable supply chain management and develop solutions for compliance with the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
  • Strategic Guidance: Provide expert advice on designing strategies that comply with EUDR requirements, focusing on effective traceability, verification, and sustainable sourcing practices.
  • Hackathon Management: Organise and oversee a high-intensity innovation hackathon, directing cross-regional teams from India and Europe in crafting advanced solutions for EUDR adherence.
  • Mentorship and Resource Allocation: Deliver expert mentorship, ensuring participants have access to essential resources, EUDR regulatory insights, and actionable guidance to expedite the innovation process.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster collaboration between Indian and European stakeholders, including designers, engineers, and industry leaders, to facilitate knowledge sharing and joint development.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Compile detailed reports on project achievements, including evaluations of hackathon outcomes, award distributions, and strategic recommendations for advancing successful solutions.
